This stellar writing is now inside me, also powering all of those interconnected organs and tissues and cells and blood as much as food or sleep does. It's bringing me home (on a day when we might well feel disconnected) to remember that connection is, always has been, and will be the engine of our collective liberation. Thank you.

What a timely reminder that we have survived. And good advice to connect.

"We are not alone. To be alone is to witness pain and suffering and not feel pain and suffering. To be alone is to fear the liberation of others. To be alone is to think that the wellbeing of others could ever bring anything less than wellbeing to you." This might the most important medicine for me/us for the foreseeable future. Thank you so much ❤️

Your writing always resonates so deeply. I have been so depressed this past week. Among other things, a a dear friend of mine who works for a major news organization does not believe what is happening in Gaza is a genocide. And today they are receiving an award for their coverage of the events there. They told me "genocide is an opinion and we don't report opinions" -- even though they do: they reported a 10/7 first responder's opinion that there was systemic rape by Hamas. I was convinced I could get through to them after everything I've learned. But I can't. I'm trying not to get discouraged but I've lost so many friends and family. I am so alone. But then you're right. I'm not because there are people online. But I don't see them often and we don't talk on the phone. I want to give my number out too. Bless you Ijeoma. Thank you for being you and your work.

You all know how when one brilliant piece of writing hits you in all the feels and awareness,

suddenly evidence from everywhere floods in...I read Ms. Oluo's gift this morning and now, as I'm reading for class, this: Our culture teaches us to focus on personal uniqueness, but at a deeper level

we barely exist as individual organisms. Our brains are built to help us function

as members of a tribe. We are part of that tribe even when we are by ourselves,

whether listening to music (that other people created), watching a basketball

game on television (our own muscles tensing as the players run and jump), or

preparing a spreadsheet for a sales meeting (anticipating the boss’s reactions).

Most of our energy is devoted to connecting with others.
