I absolutely loved reading this article for the way you wrote about Charles Mudede and the relationship you have as writer and editor. I really never need to hear that woman's name again either, the older I get, the less I care about scandal, and the more I care about what hurts people. But, I'm glad I read this piece, (and the one you wrote 5 years ago), because you are a master of writing.

I hope you get to write with someone like that again. I hope I do, too! Thanks for sharing the reminder that editors like this exist.

I just read the original article and it’s fabulous. Wow that lady was sad and obnoxious and strange. Reading this post first and then reading the original article, I get such a vivid idea of how that meeting must have been for you… I think you’re very brave and talented and I thank you.

That article was my introduction to your work and I still remember it vividly. I don’t think about the white woman in Spokane very often anymore, but I have followed your writing ever since.

I cried a little at the end thinking of you at the beginning of your journey to become one of the most important writers of our time and of your relationship with Charles. What a special story about the two of you working together, the influence he had on your image of yourself as a writer, and on the importance of having more Black editors for Black writers. Thank you for writing this!

I remember reading your piece about her five years ago, and I also remember reading about her on an EWU website that totally sold her as an expert and an activist. I was in grad school in Pullman at the time and we were looking for local arts people for a conference, and thank goodness we didn't ask her. I'm white, and I had no idea she was lying until all the news started up. I honestly don't understand why she did this, and I hate that she did, specifically because of the harm. Learning how I cause harm with my whiteness is an ongoing and ever-evolving process. Her actions were an egregious example, and I have to watch out for all of the ways, big and small. Thanks so much for this reflection, and I've been a fan of your work ever since. I'm sorry it took a Dolezol to introduce me to your work, but there it is.

Deepest respect for your ability to navigate all of this with grace. That woman is ... well, I'll just say it, hideous. Since you managed to spend hours in her company without shoving her box-braided head down the bog, my opinion of you and your work has only heightened (was already pretty dang high). After reading the piece itself, I can see just how clueless and self-absorbed she is. Glad you've gotten where you've gotten. AFA where she is, who GAF? Certainly not this ol' white lady, who has zero use/patience/mind space for white people like that waste of human cells.

I learned so much from this. Thank you for your moral clarity, transparency into your work, and writing. I'm also new to Charles Mudede and will dig in.
