After years of work, Be A Revolution is now in stores and I'm on tour. It's been a whirlwind few weeks gearing up for this tour and two stops in, we've been making memories at these events that will last a lifetime.
I started launch day running from TV studio to TV studio talking about my book. I wore this adorable pink and green sweater and had no idea that on the east coast that means I'm in a sorority! But I soon found that out from the disappointed looks on the faces of many Black women when I had to answer, yet again, that I was not one of their sorors and that the white-ass PNW school I went to didn't even have a Black student organization when I attended, that these colors matter.
After a day in Manhattan, we headed to Brooklyn.
Launch night in Brooklyn was so beautiful. The room was so full of love and laughter. We talked about community, we talked about art, we talked about how we can find beauty in this world.
So many people I love came! It was so great to see people. I went back to our hotel that night feeling exhausted and so blissfully happy. This book was such a labor of love, and to see so many people meet that work with their own love felt so special.
The next night (last night) was in DC! And we didn't talk about who I would be in conversation with because it was a super secret surprise.
Representative Rashida Tlaib joined me on stage to talk about MY BOOK and how we can and must find our own revolution. I fully geeked out for a few minutes before I would even ask her a question.
It was such an honor to be able to speak with Rep. Tlaib. I have so much love and respect for her and her work, and I know I'm not alone in that. All of us fighting for justice right now, and fighting to end genocide in Palestine, see her and how hard she is working and how much she's been made to pay for her very existence as a Palestinian American woman in congress.
So now I'm on to stop number 3 in Baltimore and who knows what will happen next. It's been a busy and wonderful adventure so far, and without the hard work of my publishing and writing team, none of this would be possible.
And also, I have the most amazing partner. Gabriel has been with me every step of the way. Keeping me fed, watered and medicated as I rush from event to event. And he's been making me laugh at least once an hour through this whole thing.
I just don't know what I'd do without him.
So yeah, I mentioned a favor that I was going to ask, right? Here it is: if you were planning on buying Be A Revolution in the future, could you buy it today? First week book sales are crucial to a book’s success. They send strong signals to booksellers and libraries that this is a book they need on their shelves.
It would mean so much to me and to the success of this book if you could either:
A) buy the book
B) request a copy from your library
C) tell your friends and family to buy my book!
Thank you so much for all your support through this entire journey. I'm excited to keep you updated with more pictures and stories, and look forward to meeting some of you on the road!
Oh, mine arrived two days ago, go pre-orders!
I would like to purchase some books for you, Ijeoma, to be able to give to people who think they deserve a freebie when they are the VERY people who should be supporting you with a purchase.
I know that if I order more than four copies at once they won't count toward your best-seller status - unless someone knows different info? Tell me where to send those books. r@thehf.org
I'm getting wonderful email notifications that your book is on the way!
I pre-ordered it a bit ago.
But thank you for the reminder to talk with my libraries about getting it!
Happy, happy, safebook tour!
You and Gabriel are such the power couple, spreading knowledge and love!
Happy February first.
